My first Yoga class was at the age of 17 after a major knee reconstruction surgery. One of my nurses was a Hatha Yoga teacher and she managed to convince my Mother to include Yoga in my PT healing plan. We began with pranayama while I lay on my back with a heavy plaster cast from my hip to my toes. At that time all I knew was what I felt - that the practice had shifted me, made me calmer, more centered, less constricted and more able to move through the pain. What I know now is that the yoga was encouraging my body’s inherent ability to heal itself and was supporting my immune system and calming my nervous system. The seed was planted!
My practice has developed and changed over the years, yet each time I return to the mat I find that same magic; that shift into calm centered remembered wellness. Yoga is healing, transformative and life changing. Yoga has the power to cultivate and awaken compassion for ourselves and others, to guide us into wholeness and presence, and to help us see ourselves and the world around us with clarity.
I am a therapeutically trained and certified restorative yoga teacher having studied extensively with Jillian Pransky. I am committed to meeting each student exactly where they are, and to guide practice with skill, intelligence, attention, and love. Restorative Yoga is a deep and powerful practice that stimulates the body to release habitual patterns of holding, tension and congestion. With gentle dynamic and fluid movement, deeply supported held poses, pranayama and guided relaxation the practice promotes a sustainable shift in the nervous system that stimulates the relaxation response and resets the cortisol levels in the body.
I am so grateful to share this Yoga and have a deep respect for each student and the wisdom of the practice.
In 2014 I was a resident at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health as a karma Yogi. For one year I lived, worked, studied, practiced and was immersed in the principles of Yoga and Ayurveda. While there I was able to study and practice with many master teachers including Hari Kirin Kaur Khalsa, Jean Houston, Sharon Salzberg, Krishna Das, Maria Sirois, Gary Kraftsow and more.
In the summer of 2015 I worked as staff in the Wellness Center at Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. I lived on campus and studied and experienced physical and multi-dimensional healing practices and modalities. While at Omega I was blessed to meet Pema Chödrön and to attend her week long program on Loving Kindness.
