Yoga For A Healthy Spine Part I
Improve Posture and Reduce Kyphosis, Lordosis, and Spondylolisthesis
with Terry Roth Schaff & Janne Roehm
This two-part workshop is designed to help you regain spinal alignment, muscle tone and flexibility, and abdominal strength, while cultivating a peaceful connection between your body and mind.
Part II will be held October 23 & 24.
Each weekend addresses different conditions that can be taken singly or together.
In this weekend our focus is on posture and the curves of the spine. You will learn about what happens to your spine as it ages and how to keep it healthy. We will practice poses designed to find your best posture and to address issues that have led to changes in your spine, including becoming hunched or round-shouldered (hyper-kyphosis), developing a swayback (hyper-lordosis), having one or more vertebrae shift out of place (spondylolisthesis). Each of these conditions can cause back pain, and they can all be treated with yoga.
We will teach you a yoga practice to keep your spine healthy, including how to find your best standing and seated posture, how to move with a long spine, and how to safely get up and down. Not all yoga poses are appropriate for every spinal condition. You will learn which poses to practice, which to avoid, and why for each condition covered in this workshop.
This workshop is based on a series of 6-week yoga classes taught by Terry Roth Schaff at Manhattan Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to people with neck, back and hip issues related to the spine. It is designed to train nurses, physical & occupational therapists and other medical professionals, yoga teachers and individuals dealing with spinal conditions including kyphosis, lordosis, and spondylolisthesis.
Maximum class size of 16 participants.
All participants must be COVID-19 vaccinated.
