Yoga For A Healthy Spine Part II
Stand Taller and Reduce Pain from Degenerative, Bulging and Herniated Discs, and Spinal Stenosis
with Terry Roth Schaff & Janne Roehm
In this weekend you will learn about changes that occur to the intervertebral discs of the spine and the spinal cord over time and how a yoga practice can be beneficial if you have degenerative disc disease, bulging or herniated discs, or spinal stenosis. All of these conditions can cause back pain, and all of them can be treated with yoga.
We will look at the anatomy and function of the intervertebral discs and the spinal cord. We will practice yoga poses that can help strengthen the muscles that support them, and that reduce pressure on the spinal cord and on peripheral nerves of the spine.
Not all yoga poses are appropriate for every medical condition. You will learn a series of yoga postures to address each of the medical conditions covered in this workshop along with poses to avoid and the reasons why.
This workshop is based on a series of 6-week yoga classes taught by Terry Roth Schaff at Manhattan Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to people with neck, back and hip issues related to the spine. It is designed to train nurses, physical & occupational therapists and other medical professionals, yoga teachers and individuals dealing with spinal conditions including degenerative, bulging and herniated discs and spinal stenosis.
